Trend lists written from design magazines are one thing; what homeowners actually pick when the samples hit their living room floor is another. Here is what we are genuinely seeing across our Orange County installs as 2026 gets going.
Warm is winning
The decade of cool gray is winding down. Honey, oat, and light walnut tones dominate our orders, and the warm neutrals flatter both the Spanish-style homes of Orange and the mid-century ranches of Rossmoor. Homeowners replacing gray floors installed just six or seven years ago tell us the same thing: it started feeling cold.
Wider, longer, more matte
Seven-inch-plus planks keep gaining ground because fewer seams read as calm and expensive. Matte and ultra-matte finishes have effectively replaced semi-gloss — they hide micro-scratches and look refreshingly natural. High-variation "character" looks with knots and mineral streaks are in; perfectly uniform boards are out.
The fad filter
Herringbone and chevron patterns are gorgeous and photograph beautifully — in the right house. In a modest hallway they can fight the architecture, and patterned installs cost meaningfully more in labor and waste. We love doing them; we just make sure you love them for the house you have.
A floor is a fifteen-plus-year decision. Trends are a useful compass, not a command. Pick warm, pick matte, pick what looks right with your light — and it will outlast the trend cycle comfortably.
