The first question almost every homeowner asks us is the same: "what is this going to cost?" It is a fair question, and the honest answer is that flooring pricing has a wide range because the material, the size of the job, and the condition of your subfloor all move the number.
Here is how the main categories generally stack up in Orange County, from most budget-friendly to most premium, based on the projects we quote every week from our Los Alamitos showroom.
The general price ladder
Carpet and laminate usually sit at the entry level, luxury vinyl plank lands in the middle, and hardwood and tile occupy the premium end — with natural stone above that. Materials are only part of the picture: removal of the old floor, subfloor prep, furniture moving, and trim work all belong in an honest quote.
Be cautious with any bid that looks dramatically cheaper than the others. In our experience the gap usually reappears later as change orders for prep work the low bidder left out.
What makes YOUR price different from the average
Square footage matters less than people think — small jobs carry proportionally more setup cost, so the price per square foot drops as the job grows. Stairs, custom transitions, and older subfloors that need leveling are the usual price movers in the homes we see around Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and Long Beach.
The age of your home matters too. Mid-century houses common in Rossmoor and Lakewood often have original subfloors that need attention before anything beautiful goes on top.
How to get a real number
Online calculators are fine for daydreaming, but the only quote worth planning around comes from someone who has measured your rooms and looked at your subfloor. That is why our estimates are done in your home, and why they are free — bring the showroom to the house, measure it properly, and give you a firm number with no obligation.
